Introducing X-CITY: an engineer, inventions and the city of the future
X-CITY has arrived in the X-GAME catalog: a game about a man who set out to understand how a data center works and found himself facing a far more unusual challenge — helping an entire settlement take a step into the future. Tools and knowledge become the starting point of an adventure, and every invention connects to the lives of real characters. Open X-CITY, meet its residents and begin your own story.
From Almaty into the unknown
The main character is an X-WORLD engineer from Almaty. In his everyday life, he maintains the X-DATA data center: inspecting equipment, finding the causes of failures, replacing faulty components and bringing systems back online. He is used to problems with understandable causes and solutions that can be tested. Power, cooling, cables and precise measurements are not abstract ideas to him — they are his daily work.
The company sends him to Shenzhen to study the assembly and commissioning of a modular data center. After training, he is meant to return to Almaty with the equipment and help put it into operation. Two suitcases hold his tools; his phone contains documents, notes and an offline encyclopedia. More valuable than any purchase is the experience he hopes to bring home: understanding how things work, learning to verify the results and passing that knowledge on to his team.
A lift that opens into another world
At the airport, the engineer steps into a lift. The doors close, the hum fades and the lights go out. When the doors open again, the familiar corridor is gone. Beyond the threshold lie a cave, uneven stone and the unknown. His phone has no signal, and he cannot contact home. But his saved documents and encyclopedia are still available, and his tools are still beside him.
Outside the cave lies a valley: a river, wooden roofs, vegetable gardens and smoke rising above workshops. People here make their living through hard work, solving problems every day that his own world has long taken for granted. He does not know how to return, but gradually discovers how he can help. An encounter with an unfamiliar era becomes a story of working together.

Start with water
The first major change begins with a simple problem. There is plenty of water in the river, but residents carry it by hand. A craftswoman has to leave her work, and endless trips with buckets consume time and energy. The engineer must adapt a familiar principle to local conditions: use the current, prepare supports, find timber and stone, and work with local craftspeople.
Knowing that a machine is possible is not enough. He must follow the path from observation to a device that actually works. For the engineer, it is a way to earn trust; for the settlement, it is a tangible improvement to everyday life. In the story, helping with the water supply leads to a meeting with the mayor and a place of his own in the saloon hotel: a room where he can leave his luggage and think about the next step.
Explore, talk and invent
You control the engineer on the town map. Move with the mouse, WASD or arrow keys, approach interesting objects and interact with them. Local people help explain what the settlement needs: the craftswoman, miller, blacksmith and mayor each have their own concerns. Conversations connect individual tasks to the larger story, while the journal helps you pick up the thread after a break.
Each project starts with inspecting the location and preparing materials. Timber and stone are needed for a specific solution, rather than simply for collecting. The workshop is where ideas become parts, and the encyclopedia in your luggage helps explain how inventions work. Next come fabrication, installation and testing. A mistake in a learning exercise is a reason to understand the principle and try again.
Seeing the result matters. A new structure should become part of the town, and completing a task should change the situation that led residents to ask for help. X-CITY therefore brings exploration, dialogue and practical challenges together: behind every project are the people who need it.
A town begins with its people
The story reaches beyond one useful mechanism. A mill needs a drive, sacks of flour need a cart, supplies need a dry granary and gardens need irrigation. Each solved problem points to another. The settlement reveals itself through the connections between workshops, farming, transport and everyday human needs.
But the engineer does not want to remain the only person on whom everything depends. Sharing knowledge is central to X-CITY: teaching others to measure, test and reproduce a result. An apprentice makes a part that fits, the blacksmith suggests an improvement and a carter finds a better route. Real progress begins when others can use an invention and carry the work forward without constant guidance.
A larger story and a way home
At the heart of X-CITY is a journey from a wooden settlement to the city of the future. The story connects advances in materials, mechanisms and urban life to a question: what are we building it all for? Knowledge from another time gives the engineer a chance to change the world — and consider which mistakes of his own civilization should not be repeated.
Yet he still has a personal goal. He remembers his home and his wife, returns to the cave and searches for an explanation of his journey. Helping a new town does not erase his wish to return. That mystery runs through the story and gives the building work a human meaning: behind each working day lies not only another project, but also hope.
Begin with your first encounter, your first task and your first invention. Explore X-CITY, help its residents and discover the story of an engineer who will have to build far more than he ever intended.
